Artist Grant

The DRABL Artist Grant has received 1020 submissions and will now close (the extra 20 submissions will still be counted). Thank you to everyone who applied. I hope to announce the winners in 4 – 6 weeks once all applications have been thoroughly reviewed.

The DRABL Artist Grant is making available £10,000 in the form of five £2,000 grants which will each be awarded to an emerging artist. A panel of 10 judges will decide on the five successful candidates by popular vote. The judging panel:

The Terms and Conditions below will set out the basis upon which applicants apply and are selected for the Artist Grant 2022 provided by DRABL.

Eligibility Criteria

In order to be considered for the Artist Grant 2022 applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • Applicants should consider themselves as having an artistic practice. This includes but is not limited to: fine artists, film makers, writers, performance artists, musicians, designers, curators. and dancers.

  • The Artist Grant 2022 is open to anyone globally.

  • Applicants do not need to have had any artistic formal training or education to apply.

  • Successful applicants are not required to provide evidence of how funds are spent.

  • Successful applicants will not be considered for future DRABL Artist Grants.

  • Successful applicants must be able to provide the relevant banking details for a wire transfer (in their own name)

  • Successful applicants agree to permit [at least] one piece of work to be shared publicly [for a reasonable period] on DRABL’s social media platform(s) to announce their win.

  • Factors of age, location, gender and ethnicity will be considered in the application process to ensure equal opportunities for all.


Assessment Criteria

Applications will be reviewed against the following areas:

  • Creative merit including demonstrating a strong idea, aesthetic and/or point of difference within their practice.

  • The quality of the project or proposed project upon which they would spend the funds if successful.

  • The applicant’s demonstration of how the funds would be allocated. Whilst it’s encouraged that a specific project is linked to the application, funds can be also be allocated to personal costs (rent payments, living expenses etc.).


Application Process

Applicants will be asked to submit the following information with their application:

  • Name, Age, Location, Gender, Ethnicity, Contact details (email or phone number).

  • A short statement detailing how they would describe their artistic practice (100 words minimum and 300 words maximum)

  • A short statement detailing how they would spend the £2,000 grant if successful. This must be related specifically to a particular project or body of work (100 words minimum and 300 words maximum)

  • An attachment or link to a recent piece of work that best reflects the applicant’s artistic practice

  • A link to the website or social media of the applicant (if they have one).

    Applications for the Artist Grant 2022 will be open for two weeks from May 4th  to May 18th or until 1000 applications are received. DRABL reserves the right to close the grant early and for the avoidance of doubt any applications received outside the application window will not be considered.
